I've just bought a simota induction kit for my BMW 330ci e46 an the instructions that come with it are a photocopy and not clear at all. I managed to fit the air filter but there's a little breather filter that come with it an i haven't got a clue how or where it goes, so if anybody has any info that would be wicked.... thanks everybody......

Here is a picture of the small breather its the blue one at the bottom left hand side.

  1. THERE IS A PIPE THAT GOES TO THE ORIGIONAL FILTER BOX FROM THE ENGINE TOP COVER, REMOVE THE PIPE FROM THE ENGINE SIDE, AND THE BREATHER FILTER REPLACES WHAT USED TO BE THE BREATHER PIPE,

  2. Sorry, it hurts to see someone put a universal part on a BMW that will most likely decrease performance of the car and void the warranty.  You should have just gotten a stock K&N filter insert.

BMWs require BMW level engineered parts to be effective with the program of the engine software.  I know you are trying to save money etc, but your net gains will be pretty low with that type of cone filter since you will be sucking all the hot air from the engine compartment.

Be careful the air flow meter is very sensitive to dirt and oil and if it burns out you will be looking at a super expensive part to replace.

  3. Hi,

Gimme a link to a picture of your engine, the mini-filter is a little breather for any excess crank-case pressure, but I think you will find that BMW have already provided for this adequately, in fact I would probably leave their 'oil-seperation' system well alone, just leave the original in place...  Some makers call it a 'positive crank-case ventilation system' it is about making sure pressure of vapourised oil doesn't get too high in the top of the engine when running hot.  Other systems involve 'catch-tanks' to collect these oily fumes, condense them back to liquid, and return them into the sump or indeed, just burn these fumes by venting into the carburettor or intake manifold.

So, unless you really really want to fit it, to have the Mini-Me filter on show, I wouldn't bother.  If you do fit it, and your rocker-box gasket starts to weep oil, remove it and re-fit the original system!
