Help with my Garmin Nüvi

I have a Garmin Nüvi and is there a way to update the maps on it without spending 100 dollars on the software upgrade?

In a word, no.  You can find map updates for $75 sometimes, but there aren't any free map updates for a nuvi unless Garmin comes out with a new version of maps shortly after your purchase.  Check Garmin's website to see if you are eligible.
