  1. The links should be very informative. Good Luck.

The understanding I was able to obtain through all my readings was:

That under Hitler, the German economy prospered. Freedoms were limited because under Hitler, Germany became a Totalitarianian government.

The Reichstag Fire Decree (German: Reichstagsbrandverordnung) is the common name of the Order of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State issued by German president Paul von Hindenburg in direct response to the Reichstag fire of February 27, 1933. The decree nullified many of the key civil liberties of German citizens. With n***s in powerful positions of the German government, the decree was used as the legal basis of imprisonment of anyone considered to be opponents of the n***s, and was used to suppress publications not considered "friendly" to the n**i cause. The decree is considered by historians to be one of the key steps in the establishment of a one-party n**i state in Germany.

  2. Hitler was an egomaniac and put himself above even his own laws.

  3. One of the most important rules in n**i Germany was, that every aspect of life was somehow organized by government. With organizations like the Hitlerjugend (HJ) which was a bit like the boy scouts but not on a voluntary basis, the control started in childhood age. The girls were organized in Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM).

When school finally was over, every boy had to work in the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) before they had to join the army.

Holidays were organized through "Kraft durch Freude" (KDF), an organization with only one purpose, to make Germans happy.

There were organizations for nearly everything and everyone. And there was a reason behind all this. An organized life left no space for resistance.

The other way to control the people was fear. Everybody could be a spy for one of many branches of the police state. The Gestapo was best known among those, but it wasn't the only agency which kept an eye on the Germans.

If one was asking to many questions he might disappear. Or he was only invited for a little interrogation after which he stopped asking questions.

Fear and an organized life kept the whole nation under control. They had no freedoms. Listening to BBC became a crime.

No, Hitler didn't treat his people well. He kept them under control.

  4. How much freedom did the German people under the rule of Hitler and the National Socialists have?

If you were an anti-fascist, a communist, a criminal, a disabled person, a gypsy, a homosexual, a Jehovah's Witness, a Jew, or a socialist you would have had your freedom taken away, placed in a concentration camp, worked to death, or immediately murdered upon entering the camp.

The slogan "Arbeit Macht Frei" never came true for any of the millions of Germans, and other people from the countries in Europe under n**i occupation from 1939 - 1945, who were sent to concentration camps.
