I just bought my new 29 gallon tank 3 days ago and so far i have had my blue gourami, tiger oscar, pleco and the african clawed frog... and i was watching videos on you tube of people's tank and stuff.. then for no reason at all i randomly look over at my tank and i see (what looked like) my frog trying to eat like a tapeworm or spit or something! and i was watching him and he finally got it out of the filter and he ate it... what is it? hes prolly had like 3 feeder fish... did he explode??

Thanks, Ryan

  1. If you can't think of anything in your tank that could fray/snap/break in general - plants, decorations, fishy bits - then I would watch Mr Frog very carefully. It could've been something that fell in the tank.

It could be a parasite that hitched a ride on one of your feeder fish? Feeder fish are a popular host for parasites and I would recommend either quarantining your feeders before giving them to your frog or feeding frozen prepared foods.

Maybe some string found it's way into the tank and got caught in the filter, or perhaps some feeder fish parts? My ADF's often spit up food and eat it again; yeah, I know. Gross.

As an aside (I like to make sure!) have you cycled your tank? Frogs are very sensitive to high ammonia and nitrate, and they do their very best when put into a pre-cycled tank. If you're scratchin' your head, you should look here:

Cycling with delicate specimens like frogs in the tank can be difficult, but if you test your water often, you can usually pull through with everyone alive (:
