Hi there can any one help me ? i have been with my I.S.P. for about 4yrs and a new I.S.P.server has taken them over and i would like to leave them so i asked them for my MAC CODE and they told me Please note that you are currently in a twelve-month contract for our broadband service which does not expire until 31st July 2009. If you cancelled our broadband supply before completing the contract, you will be liable for early-termination charges equivalent to the remaining broadband package fees until the end of the contract.. But i did not sign up to a new broadband package so what can i do ..thanks..

  1. Afraid Taz C is correct. Its an ongoing contract and if you wish to leave you must inform them in writing prior to your renewal date i.e in the last month of your contract. So I'm afraid unless you pay up,you are stuck.I think Virgin are the only company that does monthly contracts.

  2. Actually you are still under your original contract until it expires even though they have been taken over because the new company will still honour your contract that you originally signed.

So therefore if you wish to terminate your contract you will have to pay the penalty payment. It's normal business practice.

Don't try and stop your payments because you are miffed about it because they will have the law on their side and you will end up in court as a debter and on the end of a CCJ and blacklisted for future credit for seven years.

  3. Depends on the length of the original contract if that has expired they are trying to keep your custom. Call back and get a different advisor. For some reason different advisors give differnt answers. You can also get advice from ofcom the regulating body. If all else fails tell them your moving to another country or area where you know the service is not available. I don't condone this last suggestion but if they can not provide a service it is illegal to charge for it of course this would involve changing your phone number

  4. I think you would automatically have been signed up for their contract when they took over. If you want to get out of your contract, you may have to pay a penalty charge - this is usually a year's fees, so you're better off staying for another year.
