i bought a pair of 6x9s and 6.5s infinity kappas for my 96 civic they were 200 for all four....they sounded really good and i thought adding an amp n a couple of subs would be even better...so i bought a pioneer amp n 2 subs from pep boys for 200 with the box and wiring but i wasnt impressed i thought i was going to get a better sound...is it because of the amp and the subs?? should i get another amp or different subs??

  1. Here's the deal.

The box makes a huge difference in the way a subwoofer sounds... best thing to do is go online and look up your subs, see if it has a reccommended sealed box enclosure (I'm assuming that's the kind of box you're using now, if not ported boxes can be a huge pain if you don't know what you're doing).

Beings as how you can make a box for decently cheap, I would recommend building custom boxes first, if you're still not satisfied, then get a new pair of subs and a new amp.   Generally if you get 2 subs, a box, and an amp for 200, it's going to be a bunch of cheap junk.

But for now, just try the boxes, that may be all you need to get the sound you want, then look to start upgrading other components.

  2. How big are the subs? What brand are the subs? How many watts can the amp put out? It might be because the trunk is letting out air, the amplifier can't handle the wattage from the 2 subs, or since you bought the speakers and amp from pep boys, they were already used, and had some type of problem.

  3. You need to get rid of the subs and buy them individually and have a custom box built for your car it will sound much better.

I bought an amp and subs from wal-mart and built my own box it sounds better than the cheap boxes pre made like the one you bought at pep boys.
