My yorkie dog keeps scratching, ive checked her and i cant find any fleas but she does have pin head lumps. We do have ants in the house so could they be biting her ?? She cant get fleas because she hasn't been on a walk for a few weeks and this is only a recent thing. I bathed her and shes still scratching.

  1. Sounds like it could be allergies.  But it may be dry skin.  Most of our houses are very dry.  Try adding fish oil to her diet.  She will need on a tiny amount (read the label).  Most dogs like it and it does great things for their coat conditioning.

  2. Try using only oatmeal shampoo. Lather up thick and let sit. If she has fleas they should suffocate and if it's allergies it should soothe the skin. It could be the ants though. You may want to spray (but make sure your dog won't be getting into the areas you spray).

  3. It could be the ants biting her so you should take her to the vet to see if they can give her anything and try and get rid of the ants in case it is them.

    Hope this helped

  4. flees can be picked up from anywhere, guess if not flees may be it could be a food reaction and your yorkies blood is heating up causing a rash???

  5. Yorkies are prone to a condition called skin atopy and particularly dust mite allergy. The skin flares red and may become extremely painful and distracting for the dog, they will facially rub on furniture and carpets, the skin can tear and may become infected. Eyes and ears get very sore as do the soft pads in the toes.

My own yorkie suffered from a pup and after various tests was diagnosed as allergic to 3/4 housedust mites.

Treatment involved monthly injections of anti-allergens to boost immune system and various skin preparations weekly to soothe skin before skin scratched open.

Also the introduction of rigorous daily house vacuming with my dyson and well laundered bedding all helped.

Centrally heated well insulated are a dust mite heaven and a h**l for a yorkie with allery problems. Fresh air and a garden required. Don't use chemical sprays for dusting/cleaning in house either, a microfibre cloth is the way to go.

A big pat for the wee guy

  6. It could well be the ants.  If so, her reaction may well take time to clear her system.  She might well need treatment in the form of medication (as opposed to just bathing/flea treatment) to calm her down.  Antihistamine for example.  Consult your nearest vet I say!  A scratching dog is a miserable dog.

  7. My dog gets a reaction like this when he is bitten by ants or mosquitoes. If she is scratching with her nails I'd suggest a trip to the vet. If it's with her teeth you can buy a spray that will leave a bad taste in her mouth and she won't want to do that again. It's not harmful, just tastes nasty.

  8. certain dog foods can cause allergic reactions. Even if you have been feeding it to her for a while, an allergy can still develop. Ask your vet for recommendations.

  9. It could be the ants or an allergic reaction to something else. Call the vet.
