Help with my electric guitar ?

its old but not to old i got it from my uncle its a peavey fender and it dosnt sound right i was wondering if it needs distorsion or if i need to do some thing with tunening its in normal tunening its in ebgdae

It depends on the sound.  Distortion will not do anything for the sound or tone.  If it's tuned properly, then can't be that.  Do you need new strings?  Is there any physical damage?  It is hard to tell without more details.  Perhaps you are not accustomed to the sound.  Every guitar has a unique sound.
