  1. You have great tempo in your swing witch is good.  And you are not overswinging like most people do.  Your overall technique is impressive and I imagine you make good contact on the majority of your shots.  The one thing that jumps out at me is your set-up.  You seem to have a pretty strong grip, which is okay if it feels comfortable for you, but you could rotate your right hand over the top of the grip just a bit...enough so that you can see two knuckles on your right hand at address.  You posture at address needs a little work.  You want a little more bend at the knees and hips.  Try to get into an athletic position, kind of like you are getting ready to field a ground ball.  This will help you make a bit more aggressive swing and add a bit of distance to your game.

  2. You are standing too upright (bend from the waist), your hands are away from your body (instead of hanging straight down), and most importantly you are hitting out-to-in or across the line. Bend from the waist, allow your hands to drop straight down from the shoulder, and when you make a shoulder turn, concentrate on keeping your swing plane going in-to-out - or away from you. Hope this helps.

  3. First, nice swing, smooth, not handsy good take-away, I even like the length of your swing, nice and long… trying to hit the ball hard but with no thrashing movements. Nice swoosh at the bottom, good power.

The advice about you posture in previous answers is good. Bend over a little; get some bend in you knees. Your hands, arms and club shaft should not be in a line. Get some bend in you wrists and elbows (this is a lot to work on) but…

Make sure your right elbow stays tight (close to your body), then releases through, creating a nice inside out move. You kind of “cast”, “over the top” creating a slice/fade, with an open clubface.

Tip:  Practice swinging several times holding the 90* angle between you hands and club shaft. Hold the angle the whole time, don’t release the club. Get the feeling that the club head is behind you, and will be inside to out on impact. Few more practice swings releasing the club fully, to a nice balanced finish. After you practice swings, hit a ball easy, focusing on a low, right to left ball flight. Basically I am trying to get you to release the club down the line more, instead of cutting across it.

The easy fix:  sometimes technical advice just doesn’t work (get you posture down first). Focus on small target, Hit 10 balls as hard as you can, KILL IT! Now, look at the same target, focus, and hit 10 more at 80%. The second 10 will be much straighter, and quite possibly longer.

Notice posture, right elbow, big finish.

Don’t worry about equipment. “It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing!!”

Why all the thumbs down, what’s the deal!?

    Good luck!

  4. Waz -

I didn't read any of the other responses, so I apologize if I duplicate any of the advice.

First of all, you have great rhythm in your swing, which is a real positive because that cannot be taught!

Ideally I'd like to have a face on angle to look at, but I see three things here that you can work on.

    1) Posture

You're standing much to straight up and down, you need to feel like you're 'sitting down' a little more, stick your booty out and bend from the waist. I heard a good teacher once describe the stance as feeling like there's a guy on a platform above you about to drop a 15 pound medicine ball and you MUST catch it.....how would you position yourself....that's how you should stand to hit a golf shot.

    2) Alignment -

It's hard to tell from the video, it could be a camera angle trick, and I also don't know what you're aiming at.....but it appears to me that your shoulders are aligned to the left....which will facilitate you coming over the top (which you are) and causing you to hit a pull slice. To fix this put a club right up against your chest once you take your stance and see where it's aiming...it should be aimied at your target....sometimes it's good to have someone behind you telling you where you're aiming.

    3) Swing Length -

Your swing is WAY too long. You're dropping way past parallel, which is causing the club to be 'late' through the hitting zone. You need to cut down your backswing length....try to stop the club when it is parallel to the ground, I think this will help you be more consistent through the ball.

Try these three tips and repost a new video!

    Thanks for posting!

    Good Luck!

  5. It looks like you need to bend your knees a little more but the swing is solid looks good keep up the good work.

  6. You have a weak grip, which leads to both an open clubface at impact and bad plane.

You can go to any PGA Professional, and take a 30 minute lesson, and they should be able to get you hitting a draw (or a hook) by the end of the lesson.

Goto pga.com to find your nearest PGA Professional.

  7. It's great to see a young golfer with a nice, smooth, effortless swing. Reminds me of Freddie Couples. Usually it's grip it and rip it and then try to find it.

I don't think the shaft is your problem. I think you're standing just a little too erect. Bend a little more at your waist at address and move your stance back accordingly. Nothing drastic, just do it slight increments. The early release of your right heal from the ground also allows your body to open up early and promote a push. Keep your heal planted until after impact. Golf shoes would help that. I think with making these little changes you will easily be hitting a draw. Couldn't see your grip so I'm not sure exactly what's going there. Maybe another video would show that.

Mike, there's someone that always goes through the answers and gives all of the thumbs down. I guess it's their form of a hissy fit. Must make them feel better.

  8. Start with a small quarter swing until you start hitting it straight, then go to a half swing until you get the same results.  Progress through three-quarter until you are making a full swing.  You will be hitting it straight and solid in no time.

  9. keep your head still on the back and down swing. and your right heel should be touching the ground until after  you hit the ball. it makes getting square easier

  10. Standing a little too straight up. Slow your backswing way down and shorten it accelerate through the ball. Follow thru at the target. It looks like you are swing from outside to inside this will put a slice spin on the ball. Golf digest has video of pros face on and up line watch some of them and compare to your own. good luck

  11. The overall rhythm and swing look good . Nice speed and tempo. Try a little bit of knee bend/flex to move your center of gravity forward and set-up about 1/2"-1" closer to the ball. This will allow you to get your whole body involved through the ball. This position will also bring your arms closer to your body. It might feel a bit odd at first but I think that you will hit straighter and longer because you will have your legs and shoulders more involved. Nice looking smooth swing though keep working. The you tube link let me see Sir Charles , thanks , it had me laughing!!!

  12. You have a nice swing, but your posture and possibly alignment, isn't good at all. Bend at the waist, keep your back straight, and have everything aligned parallel to your target, and your swing will work itself out. Your hands should just hang down naturally, where every they fall, they fall.

As for your swing, you are coming over the top a little(which is probably causing you to aim left). If that is still a problem when you correct your posture, try swinging off of one foot, or with your feet together, and that should get you swinging more around your body than up and down.
