with people -- basically it is posting a bulliten with a link to your site and you post a link to there site.

You can S4S with other sites, become friends with smaller layout sites owners and they can advertise for you, post your link onto Yahoo search stations (free), and sometimes some big sites allow you to post a button-ad of your site on their site..its called like..tagging or something? you submit it and your button will show up on that list and every now and then it gets replaced with other people featuring their sites. you can also become a site's affiliate, like a sister site kind of thing.
