  1. Single-dial locks

Combination locks found on padlocks or safes may use a single dial which interacts with several parallel discs or cams. Customarily, a lock of this type is opened by rotating the dial clockwise to the first numeral, counterclockwise to the second, and so on in an alternating fashion until the last numeral is reached; the cams typically have an indentation or notch, and when the correct combination is entered, the notches align, allowing the latch to fit into them and open the lock

  2. I recommend you go to the drug store or target and buy a combination lock to practice. They can be tricky to get used to. But if you're a quick learner, don't worry about it.

  3. All combination locks are usually the same. At every school I know they are. You have 3 different numbers, and here's what you do. You push the dial in, then with it pushed in turn it clockwise to the first number. When you reach that number, stop pushing in. Then push it in again and rotate it counterclockwise a full turn before then going to the number. Then, just turn it clockwise directly to the third number.

So if your combination is.. 37, 26, 12 (for example) you do this:

Push in, rotate clockwise to 37. Let go.

Push in, rotate counterclockwise all the way around so you get to 37 again, but keep going until you reach 26. Let go.

Push in, rotate clockwise to 12. Pull down lock, and viola! It's opened!

  4. Why dont you buy a lock. It comes with instructions.
