Help with my nikon d40?

my flash isnt working for my nikon d40 so i called nikon

and asked them for a price to repair they said they cant give me prices until they have the camera.

how much do you think it will cost to repair the flash?

if its more than 200 dollars should i just get a new nikon?

please help me

  1. Fhotoace has a point.  The built in flashes are mostly only designed to be fill-in flashes.

    A hotshoe flash like the one Fhotoace mentioned will outperform the built in flash in nearly every way.  I'd probably sink the cash into the hotshoe flash.  You'll probably even find less red-eye in your shots.  While it's another piece of equipment, I personally feel that the lack of convenience is by far a good trade.


  2. Unless there is some physical damage to the housing, replacing the flash bulb is not a big deal ... check with a local camera repair shop and ask them ...

    No as far as your on camera flash is concerned ... you can buy a Nikon SB 400 and avoid all the hassle of sending in your camera to have the flash repaired and it costs under $110.
