I am just wondering if anyone can give me information on tips how to train a shihtzu puppy. He is 7 weeks old. I would like help to get to know some easier ways to help him be house trained as in not using the bathroom inside, and how to keep him from chewing things such as shoes, blankets, and power cords. Also, there is another dog in the house with him, it is a Corgi Yorkie.. and he is about 1 year old, he is always l*****g my little puppy around the privates.. Will that harm my puppy?

  1. My shih tzu is now a year old, and he just recently stopped peeing in the house. Shih tzus are harder to house train, but you have to be consistent. Take him outside after he eats or drinks, after he sleeps and after he plays. If he is seven weeks old, he is almost two months old. So take his months old, 2 and add one, its 3, he can hold is bladder for 3 hours, so you should take him out every two hours or two and a half hours to be safe. Crate training never worked for me, because my dog relieved himself in the crate anyway, but I would rather have him do it there, then all around the house, but then i realized he was always smelly and he got dirty, so i stopped using the crate and he had the basement to himself. Your corgi is not harming your puppy, he is just curious and i think he is trying to dominate your puppy, trying to show him who is boss. you should correct your dog when he does this because he is not allowed to be the boss of anyone, because only you are the leader. You should also research the breed.

  2. Good luck housetraining a dog that's still too young to have already been taken away from its litter...

  3. Too many ideas to go into here, but you can check out a puppy training book at the library.  I personally do not like the idea of "crating" a dog but sometimes its the nicest way to house train.  Puppies are teething babies and need chew toys.  Do not allow him to chew on old socks or shoes, though.  He can't tell the difference between what is old or new.  Keep him away from electrical cords (here is the crating idea again), and substitute his toy(s) for your blanket, etc.  No, l*****g will not hurt the puppy, its just that the other dog is older and he is letting the puppy know it.

  4. Thee is no way to housebreak a 7 wk old puppy.  But.  he should not be roaming free around the house...he should have a small confined area..or pen, w/newspaper on floor of it.  After about 4 wks he should have the idea that newspaper is the place to go.   Now you want to try to get him to go outside.   So put the paper by the door...after he is successful w/the paper at that location....move the paper outside....and make the paper smaller and smaller....eventually, he will be going outside to do his business.

  5. Actually, I also have a shihtu puppy, so I can help you. What we did is get a bell. Every time Angel (our puppy) has to go out she rings the bell. Another way is evey time he goes pee or p**p inside the house, don't give him a treat. What we do with our puppy, every time she doesn't pee in the house, we give her a bone. We only did that when we were training her though. Another way is if he does p**p in the house, take the p**p outside and show him where do p**p. That is what are trainer did, but I don't know if that helped her too.  Now, about the l*****g problem, it will not harm you dog in any way as long as the other dog isn't sick. If you still feel weird about it, every time he does it put him into the cage.

  6. I have a shih tzu, her name is Ming Ming and is 1 years old. Her mother and father are champion show dogs. The first thing you need to do is go get those really good "pee pads" at a petsmart. Dont get the cheap ones. Ya get what ya pay for. Your puppy will smell them and pee and p**p on them..  Be sure to take the puppy outside at least 4-5 times a day and at the same time for a few months.. if he/she pees or poops on the floor (and not on the pee pad) pick him/her up and tell them in a stern voice "NO!" then take them immediately outside to sniff around... if they pee and p**p on the ground say, "good dog!!!" and act extreemly happy.. Shih Tzus are soo smart.. With the biting, you need to purchase "bitter Apple" comes in a white bottle with green writting on it.. its about $10 at petsmart, spray everything with it.. it works,, doesnt stain anything.. it will keep the puppy from biting.. get lots of squeaky toys as well as chew toys.. Good luck..

by the way,, Shih Tzu's love to swim!! Ive never met a Shih Tzu that didnt.. take your puppy for good exercise!!
