I have a hi def Cable TV box and a good Sony 5 disc DVD changer.

What the heck else do I need ?

  1. Found what you got, which isn't a bad set seems to be very good their. Now you just need a Pioneer VSX Multi-Channel Surround System with DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II. About 500 watts 5.1. This would work with your Active Subwoofer 250watts LSR200 system.

Active Sub woofer means it has its own power and doesn't need the receiver power to drive the SW.

Passive Sub woofer meands it doesn't have it's own power and needs to use the receiver power to drive the SW. This way isn't a good idea.

So you have very good system their just need to get power to the center, front and rear with a receiver which you can connect your cable digital box audio, dvd and etc.. to it for audio and use the HDTV for video playback only or both.

  2. You need a receiver which will power the speakers and allow you to select what you want to listen to - your dvd changer, tv sound from your cable box, radio, etc.

A good place to do some research and find something is crutchfield.com.  You need a 5.1 receiver - most are these days.  So you should be able to find one fairly inexpensively.

  3. If the Sony HDTV doesn't have an amplified signal for rear speakers, you'll need to pick up a Home Theater System which will support them.  If you don't want to run long speaker wires around the perimeter of the room, I recommend a system built by Rocketfish which can be purchased at BestBuy.  It works pretty sweet in supporting surround sound and eliminates the clutter look of speaker wires along the floor.  Check them out at the URL below.

  4. OK you have a Teac surround sound speaker set, did it come with a receiver or amp to power your speakers?

Sounds like you need a receiver or amp to power you system for sound.
