Question:

Help with my trumpet?

I took out all the parts of my trumpet and wash them in warm water.

After they dried, I put the parts back in the trumpet

Then i tried playing and it feels very different, like the air are harder to get through, but it still got the notes

I tried to play chromatic scale, everything was fine until the E (the note right below the top line F)

I used to be able to play up to G ( the one right above register)

But when i play E, i get this buzzy/high sound.

What is going on with my trumpet? Could it be i put the valves incorrectly? but i play from low C to D just fine? HELP!?!

  1. i don't play trumpet, but it sounds like something that happened to one of my friends who plays baritone, and it turns out she put her valve in backwards. so idk if it could be the same as a trumpet or or if it's even possible to put a trumpet valve in backwards, but if so, it's worth a shot!

  2. You need to make sure the valves are aligned in both the up and the down positions.  I just finished describing how to make sure the valves are aligned correctly.  Here is a direct quote of my previous answer.  To see the other answers, follow the link below.

"Put the correct valve in the valve case. (There is usually a notch that guides the placement, but it is not always accurate enough.)

Blow gently into the trumpet, (you don't need to play, just blow as you do to clear the spit valves).

If you feel a resistance, rotate the valve until the resistance is gone.

When there is no resistance with the valve up, depress the valve and blow again. There should be no resistance there either.

    Repeat with each valve."

Congratulations for taking good care of your trumpet.

  3. I played trumpet for twenty years and had the same experience from time to time. What I did, I pulled the short tubes to each valve and made sure they were lining up when I depressed the valve. Being slightly off can drastically change the sound and make it harder to push your breath through the instrument. The horn I have now has a slight set figure to help with valve alignment, and the valves are labeled. If all else fails, stop into a music store and have them align the valves for you. Most stores are happy to do this for nothing.
