He's a West African Painted Turtle named Crush. I feed him Reptomin every morning and every night and for some reason he has stopped eating! That's so unlike him! Any ideas as to why this might be? Should i tell my vet? He doesn't look sick or anything and his shell is fine.

FISH FISH FISH..they eat FISH !!

This is what they eat in the wild along with flies, frogs, worms, crickets anything that moves they ewill eat!

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

And a big tank 55 gallons or more..

  3. I've done some research on your guy. It seems that they need vegetables, that are like leafy greens. My turtle is 100% veggie, and I feed him flowers, celery, apple.. etc. Although if you are going to feed him lettuce, there's not much nutrition in it, so make sure you dust it with commercially available calcium powder. That's just a small portion of the diet however, they need meat too. So mealworms, earthworms, that sort of thing. I think that the reason your turtle is not eating the Reptomin is because the turtle wants something new. I would hate to eat that every single meal. The diet gives him the nutrition, but it might not be palatable. What I would do in a situation like this is to vary the diet a bit. Throw in some apple and mealworms. You don't have to stop feeding him the Reptomin in general. You can put lettuce with the Reptomin, which makes it even more tasty. Crush will be fine.

Also, I know this about turtles, commonly painted turtles will go a while without eating much, say 2-3 weeks. I would still try new foods, but if he doesn't eat those at first, I wouldn't worry. If he's an adult, don't feed him everyday.
