I bought a carrier window unit, but the problem is when you turn it on you hear it click and then it starts putting out real cold air. But within 2 seconds the pump or themostat kicks back off and it just starts blowing out regular air then a few seconds later it does the same thing starts blowing cool air then kicks right back off. The air is freezing for the few seconds that it works. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it. Thanks

  1. Try lowering the temp. setting.

  2. Can you please have these checked.

    Is thermostat setting very low?

Is there anything that blocks the vent window of your unit that will cause the cold air to be sensed by your thermostat in seconds?

Is there a loose connection on the thermostat terminals?

If all of these were checked and found okay then you have to replace the thermostat itself. The click that you heard is the thermostat and if that is not stable it sure have the problem.

  3. It sounds like the sensing bulb of the thermostat is placed wrong, if the equipment is new call for service!

  4. First check the thermostat control on the unit. By adjusting this control is should lower the temperature of the air coming from the unit. Also make sure the control k**b is set to "COOL" rather than "FAN", which could be another reason it is blowing regular air as you say.

And lastly make sure you the proper amperage in the receptacle you are plugging the unit into.

All of this information can be found in the "Trouble-shooting " section of the owners manual.

  5. HVAC Tech.: If you just bought it you have a warranty problem. Call your dealer! What you describe is called "short cycling" there aer a number of causes for this that would all be warranty.
