Help with name of a community service club please!?

   The best way to get kids to join is to tell them all the neat things you're going to do to help others, and point out that it will help with their college admissions. Admissions officers want to see community service on your resume.
   
   Word of mouth is how you'll get kids to join. You could also get the club started, and then have the members think up the name.

   You could also search around the net for ideas of what other high schools use.
   
   The community service at my son's jr high is part of the student government, they don't have a name. I've changed community service from mostly parent based, to where the kids handle most everything themselves (with a lot of nagging from me) with 2 jr high leaders. So you high school kids shouldn't have a problem running a good community service club.
   
   If you need ideas once you get started, feel free to email me. A really good project is collecting white mens athletic socks from the students for the homeless. You can donate them to Salvation Army or other similar organizations that hand them out. Socks are very important for homeless people's health. They are on their feet all day, and they get blisters that get infections and can be very serious. Where I live, there is a showering / foot wash / fresh sock program at several local shelters and the Salvation Army and they need lots of socks.

   we have a program in our school called community service learning. Its when you take things that need to be done in the community and put it into the curriculum of any of the grades. EX. common needs a garden. 5th grade class learning about photosynthesis.
   
   We call it CSL. its grown alot and the state sometimes does give grants. There is no website sadly but im sure you can research some information. There are sometimes confrences to help yopu understand
   
   I know this doesnt answer your question but i just joined and i am so excited for the school year to start so we can to. SOOO...its something to bring up with yyour board.
   
   ps. we also do regular community service projects as publicity awareness.
