Help with new forum site?

So i want to make a forum, mostly to help advertise my other sites, but anyways i guess i need to use phpbb to make my forum, and i found a host that says it supports it, but i dont have a clue about phpbb, once i install this to my host will i have like visual tools to use to make my forum like a frontpage kinda deal or do you have to know a programming language? Is phpbb hard? Any help is appreciated!
