  1. divergal got it right. its not only for the chlorine

  2. to clean off the chlorine thats in the pool water. if left it can damage your hair and theres a possibility it could bleach your hair too.

  3. To maintain their flexibility. The water is warm so it helps keep the muscles warm and loose. The pool they dive into is most likely the same temperature as the pool the swimmers compete in. Swimmers swim in water that is much colder than a diver would prefer.

Divers are also in and out of the water more frequently that swimmers so their bodies notice all the temperature changes, from dry to cold & wet to warm, to dry and all over again.

  4. to relax they have to wait quite a while between dives

  5. it is to help their bodies adjust to the temperature difference once they get out of the water. if you just stand around while waiting for your next dive then you get very cold which causes your muscles to tighten up, which is not good.

some people also say that showering gets rid of the chlorine and anything else that may be in the pool water that could affect the divers grip when they go to grab their tuck/pike
