I am done reading the book "Things Fall Apart" but I don't understand a few things.

1. If "mother is supreme," as explained in the book, why is there so much abuse of women in the book?

2. What is the role of the yam in the life of the community?

  1. I read this book two years ago.  Good read! If you were to revisit those two topics in the book, it will be made clear to you.  It was to me. There was a clear explanation as to why the yam plays such an integral part in their culture.  As for the "mother"  they were supreme not superior to the men. It's worth rereading.
