How long do you have to hang up garlic and onions to dry before eating them? And wheres the best place to hang them? I was thinking either in the kitchen or under my porch in the garden.

  1. Just hang garlic anywhere cool and dry until the foliage turns brown and the outer skin on the bulbs goes papery. Onions you tend to let the foliage die back while they are in the ground, then dig them up and let them dry on the surface for a couple of days, then bunch them and hang them. If conditions are bad and you need to dig them early then treat them like garlic.

No need to cover the onions, but I don't suppose it will hurt them.

  2. I put mine in the basement...nice and cool after about 3 weeks drying outside
