I have an overbite of 12mm. I'm now 16 , and 5 years ago i wore a brace for a year, which didn't change my over bite. I wa supposed to wear braces for another 2 years but i got badly bullied about them. At the time the dentist said if i wasn't going to wear braces i'd have the choice of having an operation on my jaw when i was 21. Since then i've moved house nad have a new detist who hasn't mentioned it, and i'm not due an appointment for 5months, plus and terrified of the dentists anyway, so i wondered if anyone could help me out? What operation would he have been talking about? Does it hurt? Will i have to have it? I also have a really over crowded mouth, does that have something to do with it? What can be done to help with that? Please help, ill give a beat answer to the best answer,

  1. the surgery that i know of is where they remove part of your jaw bone or palate and have it close up again or grow back together. you'll need to see an orthodontist or oral surgeon about that kind of treatment. if you don't mention it to your regular dentist, they won't offer it to you ans assume your happy with your smile. get a consultation with an orthodontist to at least go over your options, every mouth is different.
