Question:

Help with overall draft strategy for 2nd pick in a 12 team league?

I plan to take LT or AP, whoever isn't chosen first. The later rounds are giving me trouble, because I've only played in 10 team leagues for the past 5 years.

Can you help me with my strategy? Here are my picks and my thoughts moving forward:

2: LT or AP

23.26: a combination of decent RB and top-tier WR such as Jamal Lewis/Reggie Bush and Larry Fitzgerald/Andre Johnson

47/50: a QB here, definitely. I think I can wait this long to get a decent QB such as Anderson or Garrard. Do you think that's an accurate assumption?

- also, I plan to take another WR or RB here

71/74: a TE and a WR or RB

For later picks I plan to look at what's available. I'm not going to draft a backup TE, and I won't draft a kicker. I will take a defense probably around Round 9.

Your thoughts? Thanks for the help.

  1. I wouldn't touch Reggie Bush. He's fun to watch but doesn't score alot of TD's. Jamal Lewis would be better. Or a bruiser RB. Also I'd move up my defense pick to 6th or 7th rd.

  2. I think an over all flexibility is a good plan

rb-wr-rb is a good time tested start.

in 12 man leagues Anderson's adp is about 53, so if you want him in your

4th or 5th pick you can probably get him with either. Garrard could probably with gotten with either your 6th or 7th pick if you're interested in that sort of thing. Your 4th or 5th pick can also nab one of the few TE's that are decent...and after those are gone you can pretty much wait until round 9 or so to get whoevers left. You can play defenses by ear to an extent, if you cant get the chargers/viks/bears/pats who I think go in round 8, you can probably wait a couple rounds to see if you can get giants/green bay. I probably wouldn't wait past 10 to pick a defense. Other then that, just plug whatever gaps. Get Chester Taylor if he falls past round 7 if hes still out, and if you think you're getting a deal, like if B.Marshall or Berrian fall to 10th round, feel free to snatch em up.

  3. I have been going against the old school of always chasing RBs.  With the dual backs, nfl rule changes, and injuries there is no reason not to have a top 5 receiver and top 5 QB after the first two rounds.  I have  been waiting until rounds 4-5-6-7 to get my RB and usually end up with Brady, Manning, or Romo, and one of the top five receivers.

  4. A solid DEF will score more points than a TE or #3 receiver.

  5. Go with either LT or Westbrook with the 2nd pick. With pick 23 get Drew Brees or Tony Romo if they're there, if not then get Braylon Edwards or Andre Johnson. With pick 26, get Marques Colston if you got a QB with pick 23.

I like RB-QB-WR or RB-WR-QB in the first 3 round to give you a nice balanced team.

Picks 47 and 50, get RBs. LenDale White and Matt Forte would be great with those picks. Put Witten or Clark (TEs) into the mix here.

71 and 74, just get a WR, maybe Donald Driver or Laveraneaus Coles or Selvin Young. I'd take a defense very late and a kicker last. Hope this helps.

  6. on ur 23 pick i would defenitly try to get a TOP QB one of the elite i doubt brady will be around but if peyton manning or romo is around gobble them up because the TOP QBs seem to be the most consistant out of any position... at Wr look for braylon edwards because he should still be around then and he looks to have a break out year but if you do end up gettin anderson i sugest u take quinn late just incase anderson cools down from last year and the browns want to start the quin era... one sleeper to def look out for is ricky williams he is an ex heisman winner and he should get his far share of touches this year with injury prone ronnie brown

  7. Don't take bush he is horrible
