Help with parking on a hill?

Hey, I'm going for my G2 test in a couple weeks, and I totally forgot how to park on a hill. Now I know some stuff...signal, mirror and shoulder check, parking brake. Also I know it's. .

uphill w/ curb= wheels not towards curb(L)

uphill w/o curb=wheels towards curb(R)

downhill w/ curb=wheels towards curb(R)

downhill w/o curb= wheels towards curb (R)

But my instructor showed me a certain way to do it, i remember uphill with a curb there was like 3(ish) steps and they were something like turn the wheel all the way left then all the way right when you reverse then when you hit the curb put it into drive and pull 1 inch away.

And for downhill with a curb i remember after you park you have to back up a bit so you won't hit the curb when you drive forward.

But this stuff is a guess and I really need some help, thanks.

  1.       Notyouraveragefangirl ,

If going up a hill w/a curb face Your wheels to the left ..

If going down a hill w/a curb face Your wheels to the right ..

Now , here are things to ponder on ..

If going up a hill with out a curb ..., one must decide if they cut

the wheels to the left , if the vehicle jumped out of park .. would ,

and where could the back end of the car go ?! Out into the on

comming traffic , or into a home if it rolled , or over an imbank-

          ment ?!

Again , If there is no curb faceing up the hill w/out a curb . and

You parked with the wheels faceing to the left ,and again the car

jumped out of park (with the emergancy brakes on , as well with

a standard vehicle ,again w/the emergancy brakes on ) You must

decide wither or not which way would be at least distragic) . to

wither to turn them left which for instant it would hit a $50.000

dollar car , or right and it backed into a ditch ..., which would only

cost You to get pulled out /being the lesser straightige ..

Always put your emergancy brakes on wither up , or down the

hill ..  which should be working .. but have been known to slip ..

Agian if Your vehicle is(A) standard , as well use Your emergancy

brakes .. as well they can slip , or be bad ..but shoud work ..

If with a standard faceing up hill ..., as well conserning All thee

above .... Emergancy brakes , as well  PUT YOUR gear shift into

1 ST gear .. but faceing down w/a standard , Again considering

All the Above PUT YOUR gear shift into Reverse ..

Most likely if The Instructor  has You to do this with out a curb

they will tell You to do as if it had a curb wither up ,or down ..

He /She the instructor may , also ask You just in case there is

no curb He /she will ask the Hypothetical question , Of what You

would do ..., (Here is where You Will have to Use the BEST

JUDGEMENT)   .. So You are on Your own to reply , the best

Answer ..this could get/gain You points ., that One might need

in the other skills , such as if You can , or can not paralle park

well , or not , or other bad driveing habits ..

Vehicles can jump out of gear , as well ,jump out  of park , as

well  the Emergance brakes faulter ..  Consider , any , or as well

All , of these things .. And if Your Emergancy brakes are not

working well , fix them prior to the road test ..

  2. It seems to me you've got it right, and aren't forgetting anything.  If there's something else your teacher showed you then it's a non-essential for the real world.

  3. keep it simple

    up& out

    down & in

the front wheels go the way you steer

sometimes you won't be on a real hill but instructor will say park on a hill...

parking up hill you want your wheels pointing out 1 so  car will back into curb instead of street/traffic 2 to make an easier merging back into traffic

parking downhill same thing you want your wheels to point down into the curb so it won't go into traffic

  4. -You are right.
