I'm 17, and started my periods when I was 11. The pain was unbearable for the 1st couple of years, and then it gradually calmed down until I felt barely anything. The last few months the pain has become unbearable again, and I can barely move when I'm on. I also get really sleepy and grouchy, I can cope with the grouchy bit but not the rest. Anyone know why the pains are so bad again, and also any ideas how I can cope with it all better?

Cheers

  1. Do not worry dear,What you have is called Primary dysmenorrhea or primary uterine pain during menstruation. Its called primary cause it starts  when you get your period. If you never had any pains before and it suddenly started then I would worry about other conditions like endometriosis and this is called secondary dysmenorrhea.

Your condition has almost no cause.Ill tell you a simple treatment that you will make you feel much better,am not sure if you can take it over the counter where you are,but you can ask your GP for if its not over the counter.

1- 1G tranexamic acid 3 times daily(every 8 hours) from the first day of the period until it tails off.

    OR

2-Mefenamic acid 500mg 3 times daily from the first day of the period until its tails off.

You will notice a big difference,If not then you might need to be started on the pill.

    Hope you feel better :)

  2. take a pain reliever for the pain. as for the grouchiness, you should consult a doctor because i think your hormones are acting up, your doctor can give you some medications to help with the hormone imbalance

  3. Severe period pains should always be investigated to check for a treatable cause. As a rough guide, if you've had severe period pain (known as dysmenorrhoea) since around the time your periods first started, it's less likely a particular cause will be found.

There are exceptions to this. Conditions such as endometriosis can sometimes cause severe pain from an early age (although the pain typically gets worse as the disease does more damage with each monthly cycle). Other causes include fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and sometimes a narrowing of the cervix. Bear in mind, though, that period pains are rarely a sign of disease, especially in younger women.

If the pain interferes with your life, preventing you from working, going to school or coping with daily tasks, I would recommend you consult with a doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation.

    Good luck :)

  4. You should try Evening Primrose oil, its fantastic. For around 5 years 3 weeks before every period I suffered from sore b*****s, period pains, really heavy periods. My periods were always around 3 weeks late, and I suffered from PMS and felt like c**p for the whole three week period. My sister suggested Evening Primrose oil tablets. I didn't think they would work but it said it was good for your skin also, so I took them. This month, and for the first month in 5 years, my period came on time, no pains, no breast pain, no PMS. I didn't even know it was time for my period until I went to the toilet one morning and there was blood. My period is now completely normal its not heavy any more and I don't suffer in anyway. Quite frankly its a god send. I think you should really give them a go. And on your next period you will really notice the difference. (also its worth noting that I have lost allot of weight also, as I didn't have the 3 weeks of stuffing my face with the food cravings I get before my period, oh and my skin is allot smoother :)

  5. a hot bubble bath

    =]

    hope that i helped

    or midol

  6. always keep midal wit u if u can it's a lifesaver

  7. You need to go to your doctor. I suffer from endometriosis and you sound like you have some symptoms of it.  You may not.

    check out http://www.endometriosis-uk.org/

I hope you feel better soon

  8. Over the counter muscle relaxers are ok; try extra strength motrin. You really need to consult your gynecologist to rule out problems like endometriosis which can cause severe cramps and heavy bleeding. May also be fibroids. If you have heavy periods, you may be anemic. Anemia can cause you to feel fatigued all the time, and grouchy. Make an appointment to see your gynecologist and be sure to explain "all" of your symptoms, including fatigue and irritability.  Good luck.  :)

  9. your body and hormones change as you get older, when i started i didn't have cramps n etc but  now i have them bad. just take some ibprofen or tylenol that always helps me

  11. you probably have really bad pms. You can control this naturally by taking evening primrose oil supplements or you can go to the doctor and get a prescription for the contraceptive pill which will make your periods a lot lighter and a lot less painful.

  12. sounds like you have something wrong you need examined a dr it could be you need hormones but you could have endo. hope you are ok , it sounds terrible, no one should have this, not NORMAL dont take no for an answer x

  13. Over the counter medications (Such as Midol) can provide some relief.

If the pain is so intense that it effects your daily routine, consult your doctor. She may give a prescription pain reliever to use during those times, or she may suggest you get on a birth control pill (or change your current one.)

    Good luck!

  14. id say go on the pill because i was exactlyy the same. And i was on for any thin up 2 2 months. then wen i went on the pill my periods last 2days idon'tt get pains i can hardly tellI'mm on. all u have to do is go to ur gp and tell him gl.

  15. Get checked by a doctor you may have fibroids.

You take 2 when you have pains every 2 hours for the first 6 doses then you can take 4 a day.
