Help with phyiscs question?

Question

1.the speed of sound is 344 m/s. you see a flash of lightning and then you hear the thunder1.5second later.how far away from the lghtning strike are you?

2. a train travels from Denver to villes in 5 hours and 37 minutes. If the averae speed for the train was 76.5 km/h, how much distance did you cover?

Answer 1

1. 344 m/s*1.5 s=516 m

2. 5 hours 37 minutes=337 minutes

76.5 km/h=1.275 km/minute

d=vt

d=(1.275)(337)

d=429.675 km

1. 416miles

1...344m/s x 1.5s = 516m. (About ½ a km).

2....37min = 60 / 37 = 0.62hrs:

5.62hrs x 76.5kph = 429.93km travelled.

If you can copy these problems so well, why can't you do the multiplication involved?  That's all it takes to do these!

d = v * t       distance = velocity * time.

I guess you have to know how to convert 5 hours and 37 minutes into a decimal number (5.xx hours) too.
