I have a 3 and half month mini daschund he started puppy school and is required to wear harness with.we bought one that goes around his legs and chest not around neck.Is there a good one out there because he has chewed the part around his chest.I just dont want to keep buying them if there are that easy to chew. Also does it stay on all the time because it is not easy to keep putting on.

  1. get a leather one and yes it can stay on

  2. Do not keep it on all the time. This can rub the spot where his legs meet his chest and can cause a rash or other skin conditions. Plus if you leave it on him and he starts to sweat the odor will become stronger because of it soaking into the harness. I have a 6 month old lab and I've used a harness on her since I got her and I always take it off if I'm not walking her because otherwise I had the problems I mentioned to begin with.

  3. My trainer recommended dipping the leash and harness in mouth wash to stop them from chewing it! Bitter Apple spray works too. You don't want your dog to chew her leash or harness at all!

  4. Lupine is really good. If your dog chews them, you get a new one free! They make pet wear (harness, leash, collar, etc.). Look at your local pet store and ask if they carry Lupine. If not, go to the Lupine site and take the survey. During the survey, you can type in your pet store, and Lupine will send them a free catalog. Or can buy Lupine straight from the site. It is: http://www.lupinepets.com/.

  5. The chewing thing would have to be solved through training, there is not really a harness that I know of that can't be destroyed by chewing. But since you're already in puppy school (good for you!) ask the instructors how to stop the chewing.

Never leave a harness on all the time, they are not meant for that, but, you can leave a collar on (not a choke chain).

  6. You purchased the style of harness that I prefer for my dogs.  Make sure the harness fits correctly.  When my Chihuahua was a puppy, I had to use a ferret harness on her because I couldn't find a harness that would fit her tiny body.

But I do like the soak in mouthwash idea, I will try it with the puppies.

Oh, and I never leave the harness on 24/7.  Tried it once and the doggie lost all hair on his chest from the harness constantly rubbing.  The more exposure the dog has to wearing the harness, the easier it will be to put it on.
