Question:

Help with pointe?

I've been taking dance for 11 years now, and they've finally decided to offer pointe. I'm gonna try it this year, but I'm kinda nervous. I know that some people aren't built for it, and I don't know if I am or not yet. Over the rest of the summer, I'd like to start preparing myself for it.

Are there any exercises that I can do to either strengthen my ankles more or prepare myself for pointe? Or, can you give me any advice about pointe? I'd like to know a little bit more about it. Thanks and God bless! :)

  1. Relevé

    hundreds and thousands

  2. Some good exercises are Relevé - like when you lift your heels up ( so that you are on the ball of your feet) then bring your heels back down.

Also, ashape's are good ( i don't know if that's how you spell it sorry)

Be sure not to sickle while on your pointe shoes because it  can damage your foot.

You should definitely wear toe pads too.

    Good luck! =]

  3. definately work on releves and balances in arabasque and attitude. stretch your feet and roll your ankles. do echapes. after your done with your exercizes make sure to stretch your akilies tendon. hope this helped.

  4. I know what u mean! I'm going up en pointe next week and I've really been preparing for it. some excercizes ive been doing are:

    Releves

    eleves

    echepes

    and theraband(!!!)

Theraband has been really helpful. turn on some slow music and do 8 counts to point and 8 counts to flex. also, wrap the theraband around the ball of your foot, then, put your other foot on the part of the theraband next to your foot, forcing you to hold your foot, and try to bevel instead of sickle. if you relax, your foot should sickle in this excersize.(sorry these are terrible instructions!) another thing you can do is an anti-sickle excersize, that helps strengthen your ankles and the side of your shins. sit down, with your legs to the side of you and hold one of your ankles to the ground. (Whichever side your doing, you'll want to hold that ankle down. [the INSIDE part of your foot!]) thne point that foot as hard as you can and try to lift your toes off the ground, while keeping your ankle on the ground...difficult i know!. hold for a count, then go down for a count. repeat 60 times on both sides. I really hope this was helpful! good luck on pointe!!!

  5. Releve 30-45 times a day and do crunches 100 a day to get your core nice and firm pointe is really hard work but it's really fun best of luck =^..^=

  6. For point you need to have strong feet and ankel muscles. It is hard work, but really fun.
