"A volcano produces volcanic bombs (a) At what initial speed would a bomb have to be ejected, at angle θ0 = 34˚ to the horizontal, from the vent at A in order to fall at the foot of the volcano at B, at vertical distance h = 3600 m and horizontal distance d = 10 600 meters? (b) What would be the time of flight?"

how would i write the horizontal and vertical equations togethor to solve for t? (knowing: x-xo = vo(t) and y-yo = vo(t)-(1/2)gt^2

thanks

  1. ehh- i hope that i've got my formulas right--

    Let u be intial speed of bomb

    Range= (u^2 sin 2θ )/ g

    Take g=9.81m/s^2

    In this case, the range is 10600m

    10600 x 9.81 = u^2 x sin68

    u = 334.891

       = 335 m/s

    Total time= (2u sin θ) /g

                    = (2 x 334.891 sin 34) / 9.81

                    = 38.179

                   = 38.2s
