Help with protein shakes?whey protein?

im a 23 yr old female and im trying to get into shape, ive recently started drinking protein shakes after i work out, the type i like is pure protein shakes http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=WP-1092&st=cs&source=FG&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=WP-1092... some1 told me only to drink whey protein powder shakes, are they correct and is the protein shake i like ok to drink?

  1. id say thats a pretty good shake but id also recommend buying whey protien. Whey protein is a very good protein that is slow digesting so it is very good to drink before bed!! Also, get at least 8 hours of sleep a night, muscle grows when you sleep!

  2. uhuh right! whey protein shakes are best for pre and post workout drink because they are fast to digest. now, if you want to stay anabolic during your sleep you can use casein based protein powder... its slower to digest so even if youre sleeping your body is still churning :) or if you cant find casein based go for 0% fat cottage cheese. cottage cheese has lots of casein.

Powders are more cost effective and high quality.  This shake is a blended slower uptake shake that is ok for "general use".  Whey protein isolate, on the other hand, are excellent for before and after workouts due to the fast uptake properties, allowing much faster introduction of aminos into the blood stream than other protein types.  This is good because the faster you can get the body out of catabolism, the better.

    For other times of day, blended protein powders or supplements are more appropriate due to the higher quality and slower time-released values.  Casein is even slower than blended and is an excellent choice for before bedtime as it provide the body with aminos much longer into the night, reducing the catabolic effects of sleep.

  4. The one you are drinking is fine, i mean it wont hurt, but you will get much more for your money if you buy a whey powder and just add that to milk (you can drink like hundreds of shakes with a 5lb thing of whey powder for like $30)

    The person that told you that is correct whey protein powder is much better for building and toning muscle

    Drink it right after a workout (whey is a fast-absorbing protein).

    You can also buy a casein protein powder if youre serious and dont mind spending the money, casein protein provides your body with a slow-absorbing protein, and it is good to take it before bed so your muscles continue to recover overnight. However, it isnt really necessary for just getting into shape, unless you plan on packing on a lot of muscle
