Question:

Help with providing enough power for my system?

My system in a 1999 Honda Civic EX is pulling almost 1500 RMS..its all into 4 ohms and my lights go bonkers at night...Definitely down to half brightness on the hardest songs. I've heard this is related to the alternator but the stereo shop tells me that a yellow top will solve the problem. I want to do it right so it lasts in the cold winters here so I think I wanna go with a HO alternator.

Alpine PDX-1.1000 (1180 RMS into 4 ohms 2 12" L5s)

Alpine MRP-F450 (280 RMS into 4 ohms 6 polk speakers)

I want the Big Three, a HO alternator, and a yellow top...

I am running 0/1 wire a Kicker kit so getting enough power to the amps is no problem at all...

I just need advice

  1. the big 3, new battery (optima or kenetik) and an HO alt will be plenty. don't get a cap, it will be a waste.

  2. i'm running a 1500 rms DA audio amp and a 300 rms 4 channel amp. i have the 1/0 kit, never had any problems, but i also upgraded the cable from my alternator to my battery to 1/0, and the ground from the battery to the metal to 1/0. you probably didn't do that if you stlll need the big three.

you could get a diode isolator and have a separate battery jsut for your system if you wanted, that isn't all that expensive. saves your starter battery (which is the one lights run off of)

  3. You can either install a larger alternator and add a capacitor but you'll need one with over 5 farads it will help alot.
