Question:

Help with purchasing a Nikon

I’m looking for a long term DSLR camera and am most seriously interested in the D80 (however I will gladly consider other recommendations).

I’ve owned one SLR camera in the past (Fujifilm) which came with a non removable lens...

So my question is: What should I be thinking about while buying a lens?

I would be mostly shooting night shots, macro and nature.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated! :)

  1. D80 is a good camera to try.

The lowest price i find for it is $640.

  2. The Nikon 80-200 is an excellent lens and will cover night and nature photography. For macro you need a true macro lens like the Nikon 60mm 2.8. Both these lens are rated excellent. If you plan to buy a lens that will do all these things, you will be disappointed.

  3. The D80 is a good camera ...

The lenses you will want to consider would be a good standard zoom lens ... depending upon what your budget is, you could buy a 24-70 mm f/2.8 or a 24-85 mm f/2.8~4 macro zoom as you base lens ... for macro either the 60 mm f/2.8 or 105 mm VR f/2.8 and for nature the 70-300 mm VR lens.

The hottest single lens now is the 18-200 mm VR lens and it will cover from medium wide angle to long telephoto shots.

Night photography will require a sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release.  When shooting cityscapes at night, I like to use the 12-24 mm super wide angle lens
