Help with putting up stair case railing?

i need to put up a railing on the wall up our stairs to aid my ill mother-in law in climbing the stairs. how high up the wall should i put the railing from the steps? should i just match the same height as the railing on the other side of the stairs?

  1. 32" from the stair is standard,but you really should have your mother in law feel what's best for her.


  2. Normally you should match sides but in this case ask your mother in law what would be best for her.
