  1. Alas, there are no home pregnancy test kits for rats, but, boy, it’d be nice if there were! If you did not actually see the rats mating, predicting delivery dates can be a bit tricky. Most females start to show a growing belly by the third week of pregnancy. Some are quite sneaky, especially if they have rather rounded figures to begin with, and don’t show until a few days before delivery. Also many pregnant does begin to show obvious nipples by the third week, so that's another sign of probable pregnancy. If you do suspect your girl is pregnant, you may want to separate her from her cagemates and get her into a safe nursery cage just to be on the safe side. If your rat has not delivered babies within 3.5 to 4 weeks of suspected mating, you’re in the clear and can stand down from red baby alert.

  2. no clue   wish i could help

  3. Take her to the vet, and why IS she alone!

  4. Was she around a male rat at any point? Why on earth is she alone? A vet will be able to tell you if this is a medical concern (like, say, pyometra) or a pregnancy.

  5. If your rat is pregnant (from what you're saying, I am assuming she might be) than you should let her be.  Give her things to occupy her time like toilet paper and paper towel tubes.  She might shred them up and make a nest with that.  Unscented tissues are okay as well.  Don't bother her a whole lot, she might be feeling a little stressed herself.  You can check on her and change her food and water, but try not to mess things up in her cage if she has them a certain way.

If she decides not to make a nest, I don't see why that is such a bad thing.  After all, you can't force her.  You can merely give her things to make a nest with.  If they're born on her bedding, then you get to see them more often.  Just make sure you don't touch them when they're born.  I've heard that if you touch them after they're born, that the mother might EAT them.  I'm sure you don't want that..

I'm not sure how long rats are pregnant, but maybe she isn't ready to give birth yet?  I'm sure she'll make a nest when it's time.  After all, she's got instincts.  ^^

Simply check on her daily from observing the things within her cage and give her time for herself.  Make sure the room she is in is quiet and of a comfortable attention.  Don't let people walk in and out repeatedly throughout the day as this may stress her.

This is an article about caring for pregnant rats.  I'm not saying you need it, but it may be of some help when the time comes along.  ^^

    WHY is she alone!?

  8. 6 weeks would be too long to be pregnant for a rat it doesn't sound good to me, there are some things that females are prone to I think one is Pyometra(ignore the spelling) go to one of the forums  'The Ratlist' & Goosemoose are well up on rats....I think Vet is needed....unless you got the time span wrong...if its less then could be ready for birth............
