Help with reconnecting my internet to my laptop!!?

Question

My laptop just got a new hard drive and I already had a network card and key but I can't find out how to reconnect it to my laptop. Usually an icon just popped up and I clicked on it and it automatically let me type in my network key and it was reconnected but this time I can't find it. Also I'm sure one of the lights on the network card lit up when I put it in but this time nothing's lighting up. What could've happened and how can I fix it?

is it vista? mine has vista, and I can connect to the internet again by clicking on an icon in the bottom right hand corner
