Hi i am purchasing a pair of boots in the near future and i need some help. I am very fond of the adidas power swerve boots and i understand that there is a blue pair designed for rugby. However i prefer another colour but these only come in blades and i asked by coach and he said platic blades are ok i just need to know if anyone can certifie that platic blades are legal in rugby as i know metal blades arent?

  1. i think they are legal, but they aren't designed for Rugby, and i think they will hold you back, you will lose grip, and stuff in wet conditions, and it's not ideal, if your pushing in mauls, scrums, rucks. etc

  2. Plastic blades are definitely legal. Just as long as long as you don't have a toe cleat (a stud at the very front tip). Plastic blades are usually used for backs to help with the speed. If you're a forward you may want to consider plastic studs.

  3. Its not the colour of the boots that will help you become a better player  you"ll do that yourself

  4. to start with yes plastic blades are completley legal as long as you don't have that front toe cleat (cleat or cleating blade at the very forward tip of the shoe)...that's what the refs are checking for when they do boot checks at the begining of a game...

this being said, what type of ground do you expect to primarrally play on?  i've got 3 pairs of boots, one for soggy ground, one for dry hard pack, and my mid pair...your going to want to look more at compatibility with the ground in your area, Montana and Minnesota have two completley different types of optimal foot gear for rugby...

  5. Yes, you can use plastic blades, however you may have grip issues, depending on what position you play, backs could probably get away with blades as they aren't scruming and tend to stay clear of rucks/mauls.
