Question:

Help with running problem!

So, I mapped out a mile run in my neighborhood using Google earth. I ran on it, and ran on it until I could do it in 6minutes. I was really happy that I could run it in 6minutes. But whenever I ran on a track, I could barely run a mile. So I tried the Google created track again, and I ran it in 6 minutes. This really confused me. So once again, I tried running on the track…I struggled dramatically. Why is this? Is running on a track mentally harder?

P.s. I know for a fact that the google track was a mile.

  1. Maybe when you run in your neighborhood there are so many distractions around you that you don't really realize the fact that you're running a mile and it makes it easier.  On the track you're focused on running the mile so you're feeling the fatigue that it's putting on your body.  I'm the same way.  I can run through the park without a problem but if I try to run on a treadmill I can barely make it 2 miles.

  2. i kind of have the same problem.

i can run for a long time when its like around my neighborhood or something, but once i get on a track i cant even run half a mile.

i think its because the neighborhood is something different to look at isn't the same thing over and over and over again.

  3. Probably because you are more used to running on the Google Map and used to the environment and it's platform, but when you run on the track, it feels newer and longer and the platform is different. On the track, i feel it is slower and longer as well, because you have to run four whole laps to run a mile, while running on the trail or something else, it feels faster, because your running a straight distant not one that keeps repeating.

  4. its probably because when on a track you see everything the same and when your running  down the block things look different. Its probably all pycological

  5. First of all Google Earth isn't the easiest way to map out a run. The best way to map out a run is mapmyrun.com. Three possible explanations

    1. The course was all downhill, running on a track is flat.

    2. The course wasn't a full mile

    3. You miss timed it

  6. There are a couple reasons why this could be true assuming your google map run is really a mile. One: its more down hill there for easier to run than a track. Two: You get more nervous or stressed when people are looking at you run therefore it is harder to run on a track. and three: It is harder to run a  distance when you can see how far you have to go to the point. When you are running on a road you can't see your destination exactly so you're not as crazy about getting your goal. You also are outside enjoying nature so you aren't as focused on your pain. I would say that when you are on the track the best thing to do would be to distract yourself by thinking of something because that will distract you from how far you need to go and what pain your in.

P.s. Don't distract yourself on an object around you because then you'll crash! Just think about something different

  7. Tracks are always right, all the other stuff is off
