  1. try going to venere.com

Once there click on Italy then Rome. You should be able to find accommodations that are reasonable.  What attractions and how many will depend on how many days you plan to be there. Check with your hotel's concierge. They are pretty good!

  2. Well, Rome has a ton of things to see. You got the Colisseum, Saint Peter's square and the Vatican, all the major basilicas, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Spgan, Piazza Nabona and so forth. Get a good guide and you'll do fine. Try to prepare your journey according to you interests and looking to visit places that are close from each other, in that way you'll save some time.

regarding the hotels you can checj Holiday Inn, Melia Roma Aurelia (this is pretty good and not so expensive) Aureliano. All these hotels are not far from downtown and pretty close to Aurelia train station or any bus stop.

Enjoy your trip, you'll love it.

  3. The Hotel Felice in Rome is just a short walk from Termini Station, near to all the most interesting and charming places in Rome:

  4. good luck saving in Rome, its bloody expensive!

I stayed at a 90 Euro a night Bed and Breakfast which was great.

As people have said before book your sightseeing tours online before to beat the crowds.

As for eating, try and eat out at places as far away as the main attractions as you can, the further away the cheaper they get.

Also find supermarkets to get food and snacks ect. That saved me a lot of money

    Have a good trip.

  5. Staying in a hotel can be expensive - we stayed at a B&B in a residential area that was reasonable, but close to the Vatican www.romabandb.it. It was nice that breakfast was included too.

I'd recommend taking the bus and subway as much as possible, instead of taxis. You can buy a weekly pass that is valid for both bus & train and it will save a lot of $.

For meals, your breakfast will most likely be included in the rate, whether you are at a B&B or a hotel. Pizza for lunch isn't expensive and there are a lot of varieties so you won't get bored. They also have a lot of "Kebap" places which my husband adored. Dinner can be pricey but it doesn't have to be. Most restaurants place their menus outside so you can get an idea of what you will be spending.

You can't do much to save money on admission to attractions, but there are many things you can do for "free" like walk the Roman Forum (which may soon incur a charge), go to Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, St. Peter's Square (see the Pope on Sunday at noon), Piazza Navona, and just walking the streets. The best "free" thing to do is go to any number of cathedrals in Rome and view the most breathtaking art and history. Most of them are free and for those that aren't there is just a nominal charge. I recommend Santa Maria Maggiore.

One piece of advice I would give is to be careful not to get ripped off. There are lots of people who make their living on the vulnerability of tourists, whether overcharing for a "tour" of an attraction or outright robbery. I saw myself firsthand when a tourist was robbed by two trickly thieves who tried to put on a "show" and when he took out his wallet to give them a tip afterwards, they grabbed it and ran away. These were grown men, but there are also children who have been known to do these things. Just be aware of your surroundings and know where your wallet is at all times.

  6. i stayed in Hotel Europa

www.hoteleuroparoma.com (sorry i didnt know it was in italian i'll try to find the price)

it isnt 5 star or anything but its definitely not that bad , besides you probably wont be there most of the time

be sure to see the Colosseum, Vatican if possible, Trieve Fountain, and just walk  the streets, its amazing how much history it there !

  7. try to book your excursions in advance...you will save on time from waiting in long lines...Colleseum,  Vatican etc...

Go see the "wedding cake" and the forum and look for the Piazzas located within walking distance they are all free and they have lots of outdoor vendors...certain days!!  Bargain with the vendors if you want ot buy something!  There are many cheap stores for souveniers near the colleseum.  Get Fommers book they have everthing to do in there...their is also another book..Italy on a budget!  Have fun and take lots of pictures... If you need help just say ..Ayuto me por favore....HELP ME PLEASE!
