To make metric conversions, you must be familiar with the prefixes. A conversion may be made from one metric unit to the next by moving the decimals.

KHDBdCM

K means Kilo, H means Hecto, D means Deci, B means Base, d means Deci, C means Centi, and M means Milli

Example: 345.9 grams=345,900 milligrams

Example: 0.34 km=34,000 cm

Example: 8973 mL= 8.973 L

Example: 234.788 dm= 0.0234788 km

1. 1134.4 mg= to hg

2. 56.88 m= to km

3. 2.3 kL= to L

4. 320,000 mL= to kL

5. 0.235 hm= to dm

6.12.3 g= to mg

7. 398.5 dL= to hL

8. 100 g= to cg

9. 23.5 hg= to Dg

10.0.098 Dm= to dm

11. 23.4 L= to mL

12.1990 cg= to g

13. 9000 dm= to Dm

14. 989,000 L= to cL

15. 34.55 cg= to mg

16. 5650.9 m= to km

17.3.22 kL= to cL

18. 1234.88 g= to hg

19. 23,500 mm= to m

20. 340 DL= to kL

Please tell me the answer.

  1. Metric conversions work with multiples of ten, that is from Kilo (1000) to Hecto (100) you divide by 10; from Hecto(100) to Deka (10) again you divide by 10. This means that you'll be using your knowledge in decimals. The short cut in solving metric conversions is to just MOVE YOUR DECIMAL POINT. How???

If your converting, let's say from Hecto(H) to Deci (d) your moving towards the right 3 steps, so in your given move your decimal point also 3 steps.

Let's try Example 1: grams to milligrams

Base to milli ---> move decimal pt. 3 steps to the

                                 right

                                 from 345.9 ---> 3 steps --> 3459__ __.

put zero placeholders in the blank spaces

                                 so, 345,900
