Question:

Help with sealing granite walls (not countertop)?

So almost every site/tip posted online about sealing granite deals with countertops...my question is about sealing granite when it's in the vertical orientation (shower walls...side of spa...kitchen backsplash). Almost every guideline states that the sealer needs to be wet on the surface in order to soak into granite...when it's vertical, it just tends to stream down in rivulets. I used a sponge to dry and even it out but it doesn't look very wet. Any chance anyone has any tips on this? Thanks!

  1. My granite supplier uses Lemon Pledge to seal granite.  It does seem to have a thicker texture and may cling longer to the vertical areas.  Look on the back of the can and see the granite and marble application indicators.

  2. Home Depot, Lowe's or local tile distributors has different sealers for granite tiles.  There is a difference in price and quality.  Purchase the more expensive sealer; it is thicker and will last longer and absorbs better.  Try using a cloth to spread the sealer over the granite tile, repeating the procedure more than once.  The granite tile will absorb because it is pores.
