If we call a professional about what I think is a MAJOR problem will they have to report us to like the DEP or someone?

Well, if you DON'T call a pro about a major problem you'll probably end up with an even bigger problem and then you'll have all sorts of people involved. So I'd call right away--it'll only get worse if you wait. Besides, it might not be as bad as you think....

FYI, if the system hasn't been maintained for a while and you don't know where your tank is, there are various ways you (or the septic guy) can find out:

If you have water in the yard your tank may need to be pumped out.  This is a common occurence.  No you will not be reported to the EPA.

what do you think the problem is ? many folks on here are  professionals  , Maybe we can direct you in the correct way to go to remedy your problem . as for  how your specific area handles such issue  i would imagine just saying what state you are in would be helpful .
