Help with sewing please?

I am just started learning how to sew, particularly hand sewing. While I'm enjoying it immensely, I'm having a little trouble keeping my stitches even and straight. Is there some kind of trick or technique I could use to keep my stitches more uniform, straight and neat looking. Thanks

Its important to not pull too hard on the fabric in either direction, just let the machine do the work.  As for even from the edge ALWAYS watch the measurement guide.  I will even use a small post it to give it alot of definition.

Use a disappearing fabric pen to mark a straight line. The more you practice , your stitches will become more even ;)))
