Hi, I'm applying for my reptile licence in Australia, Queensland to keep snakes...I'm looking for some help in what to buy like heat lamps, heat pads, decor, and substance for the bottom of the tank...it's a 3ft tank and also is it possible to keep to juvenile snakes in one tank?

  1. Here is a list of basic supplies you will need-

    Secure enclosure

    Heat mat

    Heat lamp

A rheostat or thermostat to control heat mats

    Thermometers

    Substrate

Logs or other items for hiding/climbing areas

    Spill-resistant water bowl

    Gloves

    Snake hook

    Tongs

    Care book

    UVb light source(optional)

    Fake plants and decor(optional)

While you can house two snakes, and only with the same species, I don't recommend it. Some snakes become stressed when housed with other snakes, which can lead to many issues.

  2. I wouldn't house the two snakes together they can be cannibalistic. What kind of Snakes??

    Substrate: Aspen Bedding

Heating: Choice of heat pad or heat clamps

    Decor: Fake leaves, Branches

Hides: Half Logs, Lego, Cups, Cardboard boxes

I can't answer the size of the enclosure.

  3. yes you can keep more than one snake in a tank, but you might need to get a bigger one as the snakes get bigger.  i have a corn snake and she is about 11 weeks.  i have a ten gallon tank for her, and i have reptile bedding in the tank.  it is like hamster bedding, like those shavings, but it is made just for reptiles.  she loves it.  she digs little tunnels in the bedding.  i have a heat lamp for her, because heat rocks and pads can get over heated (100 degrees Fahrenheit / 37 degrees Celsius) and can easily burn the snakes skin.  i would recommend a heat lamp because on some of them you can set the heat to whatever temperature you want.  i also have a water bowl and a little hide away log.

good luck and it is so cool that you live in Australia, i want to go there so badly.

  4. The type of snake you plan on keeping is going to determine what exactly to buy. The best website to look at is petco.com. Just type in "caresheets" in the search engine. It will give you a list of the most common snakes. After selecting the snake, The caresheet will explain what to get. Though not recommended, most juvenile snakes can be kept in the same cage, exect for kingsnakes because they eat other snakes.
