Here is the sentence- Over the last three decades, fast food has infiltrated every nook and cranny of American Society.

So what definition would be suitable for the word infiltrated ?

1. to filter into or through; permeate.

2. to cause to pass in by filtering.

3.to move into (an organization, country, territory, or the like) surreptitiously and gradually, esp. with hostile intent

4. to pass a small number of (soldiers, spies, or the like) into a territory or organization clandestinely and with hostile or subversive intent.

5. to pass into or through a substance, place, etc., by or as by filtering.

I was thinking 3. What do you think ? Anyone have a better definition for the word ?

  1. its 3 trust me

  2. 1 or 3.

  3. 1

  4. It is 3 because it is talking about society.... number 1 is most likely meaning the literal definition, as in infiltrating like a substance, a more literal, physical definition.

  5. Although fast food has definitely moved into our society, I don't think it was all that surreptitious and not necessarily with hostile intent.  Therefore, I think 1 (permeate) is a better answer.

  6. 3

  7. I think it's number 1. Fast food isn't really hostile :/
