Help with sports day?

ive been put down to do a 1500m race on sports day and im no good at running and the people who put me down because they dont like me. What should i do , should i not turn up or should i do it are there any good training regimes that could get me fit in a short amount of time , scince sports day is only on monday

  1. You can do like the other answers, practice running 20 to 30 minutes every other day for a few months to get good to run the distance... but that wont help you for monday!.

    There are a couple of things you can do to help you out.

    Sleep well over the weekend

    Drink plenty as well so you are well hydrated

    Dont eat a large meal close to the race (morning and no large breakfast, afternoon and no large lunch)

    Relax before the race - dont get worked up about it.

    Make sure you have your kit with you - last minute panics arnt good either

    Turn up for the race - the people who put you down for it sound like they want you to fail... and what better way to get back at them than to prove you can do it and do it well

    Line up where you want, near the inside if you can but dont get crowded in. Run the first couple of laps at an easy pace, however you need to stay with the pack or near the front if you want to do well.

    After 2 laps start to increase your pace - focus on the peolpe in front of you and go to overtake them... then go for the next person and the next. There is nothing like being overtaken half way through a race to loose moral and the overtaken often drop away and out of contention.

    Your aim should be to be knackered by the last 100m but ready in case you need to sprint to defend your position./ remember that the race should last about 6 minutes - not a huge length of time to run for (think of marathon runners who run for 3, 4 or 5 hours!), so you can go for it - you dont need to preserve energy for later. However dont kill yourself on the first couple of laps - go easy for them then go.

    Finally get your head right. You have been put down for the 1500 so people can score points over you for whatever reason - dont let that happen. Remember that during the race and get angry and focused to do well, dont let yourself get overtaken after the first bend, remember that you can win if you want to but perhaps 3rd is good as well. So go for it, and do well
