My neighbour was living with his dad in the council house next door, when his dad suddenly died. Now the council have told him he has to leave the property, without them finding him alternative accomodation. He has decided to stay in the house (squat in his own home). What rights does he have? Thank you.

  1. he doesn't have much to go on I'm afraid if the council get a Court order he will be evicted but they cannot force their way in whilst he is inside the property ....maybe he should ask about continuing the rental payments in his own name and explain the situation .sometimeses the council can lend a helping hand if u are up front with them

  2. The only squating Laws I know is...... Dont squat over a Camp-fire cos you might burn your Ar$e.........

  3. no rights what so ever. Now get a job and get out of the house and start paying your way and stop living off us tax payers

  4. Hopefully none. Tell him to apply for a house like anyone else and wait like anyone else. They WILL help him find temp accom while he waits. They won't offer him anything while he sits there sulking. If the next part of the whine is that he hasn't got any money for accom tell him to get a job sharpish. McDonalds are recruiting if he has no skills.

Or if you are really that bothered let him squat rent free in your house. Or is it that you think he should have a free ride but don't think you should get the bill?

  5. You don't say where the house is, as the earth is quite a large place and different laws apply in different countries. However, I'll take it we are in good old England. The simple answer is that, assuming he has lived with his father for a reasonable length of time.

( the above answers are talking rubbish. ) he cannot be evicted if he has not broken any council rules. If the house is far two large for him and is required by another family, then he must be rehoused in suitable accommadation to his own satisfaction. Hope I have helped.

  6. The council will just get a eviction notice against him.  It will take take awhile to work through the courts, but in the end, he will lose.
