Question:

Help with subs and amps

Alright so i was planning on purchasing 2 alpine type R's with the dual 2 ohm coils. and i was going to get a hifonics amp but was told that it would draw to much energy and i dont have an efficcient alternator to use that amp. sooo i thought i may be able to have 2 kenwood 8103D amps and wire 1 to one sub and another to the other sub. So my question is will this still be drawing to much current from my cars electrical system? links below. also i believe my alternator is 80amp.

  1. If both set ups have about the same output wattage, They will put about the same strain on the alternator. Sorry, I would give a better answer. But, the links to the amps are broken.

  2. don't know if buying 2 amps is going to help reduce your current draw...look in to buying a capacitor..these usually help in distributing your current draw a little better, and won't suck as much from your alternator/battery

  3. If your alternator is not efficent enough to run that amp then just do the BIG 3 UPGRADE. This link will help you with the big 3 upgrade:

As for Brandon B suggesting a capacitor, that is absurd. If your alternator is not efficent enough for the Hi-Fonics amp then why would it be efficent enough for a capacitor. A cap is only an energy bank to be used in an inistant where there is a lack of power from the alternator, thus would be causing an added burden to your electrical system to begin with. Brandon needs to learn exactly what a cap does before he gives any advice on neediing one. I am running well over 2000 watts RMS and I have no cap at all!! There is no need for one unless your competeing in DB Drag events. Do the big 3 upgrade, does not cost very much either. Then you can also look into replacing your alt with an HO (high Output) Alternator.
