i'm in charge of taking care of my neighbor's above ground swimming pool since they moved out. everything has been going fine until today there are these little clear/white bacteria looking things floating on the top of the water. I know that it's not algae because that grows along the base and i used algaecide this past saturday. Also, i know it's not a chlorine problem because i've been using that just like it is supposed to be used. HELP PLEASE!!!!

  1. Couple of suggestions:

    1) Verify that it is simply not air pollutants/pollens etc as the other posters have suggested.

    2) Take a water sample to your local pool specialist.  They will be able to do a full chemical analysis and make sure that all the chemicals are in the proper balance.

    3) They may suggest that you FLOC your pool.  Basically there is a chemical that you add that attaches itself to all of the particulate in the pool and makes it sink to the bottom and you can then vacuum it up (Vacuum using the "Bypass" setting on your filter or backwash the filter frequently to avoid having all the crud recirculated back into the pool.  It will take several vacuums to clean up all of the crud, but when you are done, the water will be crystal clear.
