i am about to give my car the big 3 upgrade...i wanted to know if the new ground wire had 2 go to where the old ground wire is grounded when usin both the new and old ground wire...(if that makes sense)??? because my engine ground wire runs from under my alternator somewhere to my battery neg...i want to leave that ground there but run a seperate ground say from the engine mount to the chassis!!! will this work or should i just cut the old wire out totally? im using 2 gauge cable for the upgrade!

  1. yeah, you'll be fine.  Not sure if an engine mount is a good spot though.  Make sure it's good metal to metal connection.  No paint, etc.

  2. A part of the BIG 3 requires that you upgrade the wire from the engine mount to the chasis anyway.Ideally you want to upgrade the wire from the battery to the chasis AND the wire from the engine block to chasis as well. From my point of view anyhow.

My point is that your MAIN ground source is the battery Itself! so the most important wire that needs upgrading is the wire from the battery.

You CAN run a seperate Ground wire  to the engine block  OR chassis so long as you goto the battery negative. That is if you dont want to mess with the old wire.

  3. Run the new two gauge in addition to the battery ground. Run it anywhere to the chassis with no resistance. It is always good to have a bigger ground than power wire and it will not harm your system.
